FAQ

I would like to assume myself as Full-Time streamer, but in Portugal being full-time content creator is a huge challenge.

I share my functions between being a Graphic Designer, working brands, design, and my client portfolio and Stream.

The name of the StreamLab Brand is easily associated with Logitech StreamLabs streaming software service, but there is no relationship between them; The naming of the project is even older than the StreamLabs brand.

StreamLab is a national trademark registered by INPI (National Property Institute)

Streamlab project was created in 2011 by FORDOC (National Association of Young Trainers and Teachers) as part of the project CreativeLAB, a community of creatives, students and professionals in the areas of advertising, design and communication. In its initial conception, StreamLAB was a 24-hour online channel with varied streaming content, created and developed by the residents of Creative LAB – FORDOC.

On January 13, 2018, the StreamLAB project was made up of only one streamer, João Santos. Currently, the project is unique, with daily broadcasts that seek to differentiate on the Twitch platform, the main mission of these broadcasts to go beyond games.

You can watch a video about Brand History and Logo > Here.

It all started with a professional project in 2017-2018. I was contacted by the League of Legends Portugal team to develop the branding of the first edition of the League of Legends Portugal League (LPLOL), although I already know the world of Twitch still as JustinTV, after developing this project and due to the games being broadcast at Twitch I ended up creating account and meeting numerous content creators.

At the time, I was working on a entrepreneurship school project where we did some consulting, marketing, advertising and design projects by FORDOC (National Association of Young Trainers and Teachers), an association in which I worked as Vice President and signed our projects – CreativeLab. Among some works and videos, comes the creation of content this time in Stream. StreamLAB.

I have a strong passion for human psychology and behavior. The world of Twitch fascinated me by the completely different contact that real-time content creation generates. From the possibility of meeting new people, new realities, debates, exchanges of opinions, different views and experiences or even the simple act of knowing that you might be making the day better for the other person on the other side of the screen were perhaps the main "motors" that led me to explore the world of content creation.

Honestly, no. When this whole project started, I didn't think I'd be with this job for so many years to live and dedicate my life to it. I didn't even think I could become my job and my breadwinner. Obviously, all of us when we start have the aspiration to work on doing what we like, to have people see us and follow our work. Being able to turn a passion into work is an undeniable opportunity, the position of being full-time streamer is extremely privileged and "dominated" my life. But of course, as all other works have their negative sides.

What makes me more interested in being a streamer is knowing that when I start my work day I'm "opening" a common space of my own, project of a personal dream. A safe-spot created by me, for us. Knowing that I'm going to meet there during those hours people who help each other, have fun and get the best of themselves. Above all, knowing that I own my ideas and I have the freedom to experience everything, to mix my real work with the dream of the stream. To feel like an "older brother" or "shoulder friend" to so many people, to know that I have helped people in their worst moments is what brings me strength in the moments of the greatest discouragements.

The worst challenge is attached to the time and requirement that being streamer back. No one is aware until you experience how difficult it can be to be talking to 100 people at the same time while trying to have a real-time creation process. The demand you have to have before you every day to get over yourself and keep doing your best to keep you from being abandoned. The fears are many, the constant doubt is gigantic and not knowing how much money you can count on at the end of the month is the biggest and most destructive challenge.

A streamer is moderator, entertainer, manager, network manager, content creator, designer, video editor, creative, webdesigner, secretary and accountant of himself. In addition to all the social responsibility I like to apply to being "an influence" the fear of seeing the numbers and means falling reveals a constant nightmare if you do not have a strong mindset and in the right place.

At the end of the day, most of the times the positive points are stronger than the negative ones.

It's a demanding balance. I have the privilege of sometimes working on my living designs and getting the best of two worlds together. But as a streamer, you earn more, and the bigger your exposure. This requires being online... and being online all the time for everyone is impossible. I've learned that it's better to be okay with my physical and mental health and have the best energy for three hours of stream than to force and be bad for eight hours.

From experience over the years I've learned to value vacations, holidays and weekends. Recharge batteries and rest to bring better content. I like to try to work on live during working days, for at least 8 hours a day. Try to have a professional schedule similar to that of my family and other "society".

Shooters, survivals and games with a good story.

Shooters/Survivals are the kind of game that interests me most personally, the mix between the hardcore side and realism makes me vibrate more. A good story is always interesting to do in stream. It triggers debates, exchange of ideas and interesting opinions.

For me, on live, nothing better than playing something that offers the viewer the feeling of watching a movie, or something that brings him a sense of belonging, participation and entertainment.

I'm not a competitive player, I don't care to prove to anyone (nor myself) how good I am in a game. For me a game serves to relax and enjoy alone or with friends at the end of a day. To compete and try to be the best of me... is enough real life "out there" 🙂

I don't have a right answer. I think there's a mix of luck here with skills.

I think I can be a good conversationalist on multiple subjects. I'm super open to debate and I love playing devil's advocate. This ends up generating very unique moments between us that often result in good learning. I myself have changed my opinion/vision on several issues after discussions with Stream... this is something very unique and valuable – it is a growth I did not expect to see in Twitch.

I think the success of the community comes from a good balance between "play" and "serious." We have a space to talk about the best and worst things, always with a good dose of respect and a chat with a very right reading for the troll moments.

The content of the stream by itself is more adult, as is the majority of the viewership, which helps that there is a greater and better fit for the various and certain types of situations.

Do not invest in everything in an unmeasured way – being streamer is a step-by-step. A careful image, a good light, a good camera and/or the comfort of a 3rd Monitor is important. But it doesn't make sense to invest in something crazy without the certainty of results.

Turn off the viewer number and don't stream thinking about subs or donations. People's biggest mistake is that they think they're gonna get 100 donations.$ as "the Americans" have every day. That's destructive and disheartening. Don't stream for the money, whatever it has to be... but the most important thing is to start and do what you like all the time.

I don't. I'm a human being like everyone else. Being a streamer is more demanding than it seems and constantly discouraged and I lose myself in my own doubts and willingness to give up. I've had moments of burnout and anxiety that led me to have to stop for a moment.

Like any job, there's gonna be good times and bad times, we don't live in the joy-filled disney, and what defines us and makes us grow is how we overcome difficulties.

Birthday Streams and some other streams in which it was completely destroyed inside are what comes to mind immediately. Not because of the monetary issue, but because sometimes in the lives moments arise that bring you a food to the exceptional ego and give you the strength to continue.

Usually when it's my birthday the community gets together and makes a video. It's extremely heartwarming to see what people go to work to honor you as a person, how to stream as a professional. Those viewers become friends, family. You realize that your job is so much more than a person making monkeys for someone behind the computer on the other side of the world to laugh.

When I meet someone personally who's been with you online for hours, days, months, years... everything gets another meaning. So I think I am not wrong to say that the most memorable moments are the moments of real-human contact, support and recognition.

I don't suffer much from it. Gently, negative comments serve to point out to me that something is wrong. If I consider there's something to be improved, I try to improve, if the chat calls my attention that there's something to change, it changes. My work is constantly changing.

Trolls trying to get to my chat usually don't get the attention they're looking for and result in ban very quickly. The community is very united and when someone enters with the wrong foot easily the person realizes that it does not belong there and I left on my own, without any intervention being necessary. I often say that when someone tries to arrive to destabilize me it facilitates the creation of content, because they end up coming in a tone of joy and usually ends in two ways:
(a) Person redeems himself to end up staying and enjoying living;
(b) Person comes to enjoy, ends up being mocked;
(c) There is always option C. No one is patient and is totally ignored;

I've been learning that the less you think about this the better.

The focus is simple, improve, bring new things, innovate a lot, continue to create and improve every day. Make monetization possible so that you can live comfortably doing what I like to do and continue to fight for the dream.

Being a streamer in Portugal is an incognita... and if for a few months it's going bad financially, I have a body and a head that allows me to work beyond the streams to continue to support the idea of Full-Time Stream.

I've done it several times over the last few years, I'm sure I'll do it again.

We were considered Twitch Partners June 1, 2018, 6 months after starting streaming.

Yes, although the stream is known distinctly as an art stream, my goal is to work a little in the mornings and during the day and finish the streams with some gameplay.

I started as a streamer of Escape from Tarkov in 2018 and my passion for video games remains present. I still have the dream of doing some reviews and I like it, whenever possible to cover new game releases.

It started in a playful tone when some viewers wanted to know more about how I worked in my professional life. In addition to showing some branding processes and giving some "mini-studies" in a very general context, I ended up developing some emotes, logos and illustrations in stream.

It was a happy accident from a joke in 2018 with the anniversary of one of Stream's first viewers. An illustration was made depicting the birthday boy and offered him the image as Wallpaper. As time went by and more viewers met and attended the stream. Stream's "Kids of Birthday" project was then created. Later, whenever an element of Stream made years, a caricature of it was developed in stream, based on moments passed in stream, profession, passions and hobbies. This anniversary gift and thanks for being a supporter and viewer of Stream, resulted in the mornings of Art live in which together with the community are done Brainstorm exercises (in which we exchange ideas and create concepts around the birthday girl) and later design, Illustration and Painting.

We are currently in the 4th Edition/Season
In 2018, during a joke on the birthday of one of Stream's first viewers, an illustration was made as a gift and offered as a wallpaper. This led to the creation of Stream's "Anniversary Cakes" project, in which cartoons of Stream members were developed during live broadcasts, based on past moments, professions, passions and hobbies. These drawings were subsequently converted into pickers and a complete collection was released in a notebook. The following year a card game with your caricatures appears beyond the notebook.

Caricatures is a retribution for being on the stream with a cartoon of you, about yourself, your passions and motivations, and also about our streaming moments, is the least I can do to repay those who allow me to stream every day.

These illustrations are also used in other projects such as:
– Caricature Wallpaper (Mobile and Desktop)

– Caricature in Merch (Canecas, TShirts, Hoodies, Etc;)
– Caricature in the notebook
– Caricature in the Painting Book
– Annual Poster or Exclusive Edition.

Minimum requirements for caricature:
– Minimum: 12 Sub-assembly months
or
– 300,000 StreamLab ChatPoints
Rules for ordering caricature:
– You must be on the community Discord server and open a ticket, follow the steps and instructions (some details about you) so I can move on with your cartoon.

Note: You can only ask and confirm Caricature by message on your birthday seven days in advance.

Every year, with the cartoons of the viewers are released specific collections. With its profits we make a donation to a social cause of choice of Chat/Community.

2021 – Chrome notebook
2022 – Chrome Book + Painting Book + TimeoutGame**
2023 – Chrome Book + Painting Book + Hotel*
2024 – Chrome Book + Painting Book + Exclusive Edition still to be announced.

**TimeoutGame – TimeoutGame – Twitch Chat Game is a turn card game inspired by the universe UNO and Exploding Kittens. Game skills, powers and cards are cartoons of StreamLab viewers and members. The TimeoutGame Project began on 4 October 2021 to 23 March 2023. Finished now, all these illustrations will also be turned into stickers and part of the StreamLab Chrome Notebook 2nd Edition.

EX: Timeout Game – The card game was part of the exclusive collection of 2022 and is no longer for sale.

The biggest stream was 32 hours without stopping at a time when there was no "subathon" fashion, and I still went to the Burn of Tape after this live, I continued to share the day with the community for instagram. I think after this I slept a week in a row!

We are the most art view stream in twitch in Portugal and also the most seen in Portuguese.

We've already been named "streamer of the year" but we've lost a lot of merit to Ric Fazeres. 😛 The subs record reached 700 subs, averages of 200 viewers and some peaks of 1300-1500 at events.

Every month, the stream tickets are drawn. The ones who support the channel. Raids, Donations, Subs and Bits above 4.99€ result in the printing of a bead that is stored in a pot until the last day of each month stream. On that last day a draw is made and the beads that may receive games.

During the initial phase as streamer I belonged to an E-Sports / Streamers team. Two years after entry I concluded that these teams contribute little or nothing to Streamer's evolution. I have a very controversial personal opinion about this issue. I disagree with being forced to advertise official team services and brands without obtaining any kind of feedback, support or assistance from the so-called "team".

Any type of partnership or collaboration requires mutual assistance from both parties where both parties can benefit, which rarely happens. At the moment, in the general picture I do not consider any advantage in belonging to any group or team.

FAQ

My name is João Santos, I'm 25 forever (although I was born in 1989, but don't tell anyone. That part is secret!), I love coffee and stream on Twitch since January 13, 2018.

I'm a graphic designer and design trainer. I love human psychology and behavior. Video games in a nontryhard context.

Stream already had two locations, Coimbra and Oliveira do Hospital. As far as I'm concerned, this will be my location for the next few years... but you never know tomorrow. 😀

I was a trainer and taught graphic and audiovisual communication for a few years, loved the experience and I consider that teaching is one of my greatest passions. In the future, you may work again at this root.

Licensee Communication Design and Multimedia, Communication Technician: Marketing Advertising and Public Relations;

While I was studying as a bartender, I interned in a printery and later started developing my work as Designer FreeLancer, I ended up participating in some contests in which I developed an international portfolio and some awards.

I was a trainer and vice president of the National Association of Young Trainers and Teachers ( FORDOC), gave lectures and conferences, participated in consulting projects and gave classes in Graphic and Audiovisual Communication.

Before working as Content Creator I worked for two years on an exclusivity and outsourcing regime in a German company.

Since 2018 the professional focus has been given to the creation of Content and career return as Designer FreeLancer.

Yes, I have deep neurological deafness on the right side from birth. I've never been aware of what it's like to hear from both sides, and sometimes I find it hard to understand which direction sounds come from... which becomes cartoon in the stream when I'm playing (shooters mostly).

If you are playing online and want to go on the competitive path, FPS/Shooters. I have a preference for survival games and/or military hardcore. Games like Squad, Gun and Escape From Tarkov are my favorite.

With a more chill mood I can enjoy a good single-player if you have a good narrative. For night streams of "StreamLab N’Chill" as I like to call it a good puzzle game that you can pause and share theories with chat is the most suitable.

Another root of games I really appreciate are the Dark Pictures games, not the terror side, but the butterfly effect. The way a bad decision can lead to a bad ending and a completely different story is super interesting and in stream it seems almost like watching a movie with viewers.

If you're offline, I like playing Valorant with the discord crowd and on the ground I love RTS/Strategy and nothing like a good FM to kill the football pet.

For lack of time I never liked games too "grindy", MMO’s/ games within the repetitive farm universe like Warframe, WOW, Runesscape, Metin are not games for me. I don't like SoulsGames or games too Asian-furry style.

Yes, you can, depending on my schedule. Access the Design tab for more information.

Super passionate about Series and movies, I've almost been professionally following cinema... I guess that says it all! And of course, technology and Pop-Culture!

Dreamy, Japan and New York. I want to stop five minutes on a treadmill and see more different people/faces/behaviours in those five minutes than in life. To be at peace and quiet I am very curious to know or live a week in Nepal or Tibet, like a monk!

I've been to Dubai and have less and less interest in big cities. I prefer to enjoy nature and beach. Too much beach!

Everything that's wrong, I like it.
All that is green and salutable... I don't like it!

But... I'm a little careful with the food! I swear.

Complicated... hm... Are there any villains who are Ana D'Armas?

Maybe GLADOS of the Gate is intriguing enough to give a good date, right?

Now what?

Are we there yet? Now what?

Are we there yet? ... ?

A birthday livestream that was emotionally more felt. And drunk... cried.

I'm too old a guard to remember my first game. I know what hit me the most was Pokémon Red in my Gameboy. I wouldn't let it go for nothing.

Very little, perhaps the final stages of League of Legends by the event itself.

I understand that the DEVs need to monetize, but I'm getting more and more upset about the financing formats in the industry. Pays subscription, subscribes to play online, pays for more convenience, pays to give less grind, pays for everything and more.

I hate Pay 2 Win, but I don't play these kind of games, I think everyone does what they want to do with their money, I don't like it when games are released thinking about creating problems to force external purchases. I don't like paying for a short DLC.

But there is no doubt DLC’s worth every penny. It's not all bad.

Sekiro, in the stream... and yet Soul Games... I didn't like the experience. I like a good challenge, but that's not a challenge.

Not much, less and less in reality. The time I'm online does not allow me to watch many friends and colleagues, at the end of the day there is no longer much ability to be attached to the computer.

The community. No doubt in timings and right spaces the twitch is absolutely fantastic. But you need to use a good filter and know where to be!

Design and Illustration are my work and my hobby. I expect to soon insert a new hobby into my life: Modeling, 3D Printing and Painting/Preparation of Miniatures/Statuettes.

Kickbox, though super inactive.

Pokemons at Pokémon Go!

Right now only indirectly by investing in personal projects such as stream and design. I was vice president of an association for a good few years!

Benfica. My father was from Sporting and I decided to go against it. But the reality is that I already liked football more in Portugal, as I grew up I realized more... and I wanted to realize less!

I like Premier League games and have a special love for Manchester United.

If you can swim or go for a walk. Reading in a sun terrace if it's summer.
At home, in the winter, get some snacks and watch a good show or film.

Usually what I do is I literally hang out with people talking/playing.

I love spending a whole night working on a little bit of the stream or idea that no one notices. And that's why I love it when they notice! More than that, I love bringing news that makes them say "this is unique."

Art, Design, Technology... But above all the debates. I love debating with my community. If we really need to discuss the various issues. I've changed my mind. Sometimes I've learned so much from them... I hope the opposite has also happened.

We often talk about matters of today and exchange many impressions about everything a little.

I've been asked this a lot, and I've been told it's the Lady of the Head. But no... I'm really João Santos. I swear!

Nope. No emotes, no layouts. The answer is as simple as the value/hour work that most streamers are willing to pay for the real work vs. the value many designers of youtube tutorials charge is completely outside of this universe. I like working real business.
